The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.
Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
As the debut season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to ignore the noise.
“It feels like an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”
“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Does the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?
Considering the writers aren’t being guided by public opinion, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… sort of.
“We've developed some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.
“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Alternatively, why not reference the classics?
“I want Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
