That Grisly Animated Movie Conclusion That Stays With Audiences

Out of every mature cartoon movies I have personally watched, nothing has stuck with me quite like the terror-laced finale of a viscerally violent and deeply subversive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.

Back in 2015’s, the Spanish writer-director created a grim, melancholy and often savage universe with several minor , desolate glimmers of optimism.

While Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from a desire to push animation even more, the director explained that it was rather an attempt to express a widespread, cross-cultural message about “the common origin of all wars.”

That idea is expressed via a band of vividly colored bears , obviously modeled after a famous series of cuddly figures.

Maturing in a culture focused on militarism and the military-industrial complex, a lot of these creatures are consumed by killing unicorns, thanks to a sacred text which states the bears they previously were kings of the woodland, until the unicorns expelled them.

A few haven’t fully bought into the brainwashing, , choose to sample narcotics and mate outdoors.

Unlike their friendly equivalents, these vivid animals show sexual organs , definite urges.

For a certain particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the battle against unicorns turns into a road toward dominance — and specifically to supremacy above his softer, kinder brother Tubby.

This bear behaves aggressively and an obvious antisocial figure , and as fear dominates his unit and takes his comrades sequentially, he seizes progressively control on his own behalf, through ever more bloody, destructive ways.

At the same time, these mythical beings are suffering their own horror, as a growing, deadly beast in their habitat.

“In the early stages, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “But then it evolves into a more dramatic and sad film. And ultimately, it becomes a horror film.”

Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like among the playful features from an iconic filmmaker, that discover a naughty glee in letting animated figures swear, fire weapons, or sex each other up.

Afterward it becomes more akin to a darker movie from that director, featuring progressively graphic violence , a palpable link to the real suffering of war.

By the end, it is an outright Grand Guignol carnage.

The fear which makes the film a perfect Halloween movie begins a lot earlier than indicated.

Unicorn Wars is one for the most dedicated lovers of violence, for enthusiasts of graphic films who wish to see a movie they have not seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a narrative that offers unflinching brutality.

See it in a dark room with no disturbances, and the conclusion will crawl under your skin and take up residence there.
