Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
