Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
