People have gathered across the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-conducted attack on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The incident led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our violent opponents have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the aims of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will not present a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership delayed formal memorials until mid-October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was televised across Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was respected across the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, both sides' delegations convened in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the proposal.

A senior Palestinian official knowledgeable about the negotiations revealed that an night meeting of negotiations commenced at evening in Egypt.

The representative stated the morning session finished without significant progress, because of differences over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not restart hostilities after the initial stage of the arrangement.

He commented that the discussions are "difficult and have yet to produce any significant progress," but mentioned that mediators are working hard to close the differences between the conflicting groups.

Critical Matters in Discussions

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The exchange of the prisoners still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies provision
  • Future management of the area

Civilian Sentiment

In the city's public square earlier, young a woman - whose brother endured the incident on the outdoor event, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - shared: "No location feels like home any longer and until every captive are released no one will have peace of mind."

"When we see all home once more, we can feel relief once more. Then we can commence recover," she continued.

In front of the prime minister's residence in the capital, people gathered to show their solidarity for the families of the hostages. Israel states forty-eight stay in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Protester a participant stated: "We must do every compromise needed for the abducted to be released. But we really want guarantees that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that around seventy percent of Israelis desire the hostilities to finish in as payment for the release of the abducted.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the site of Nova festival, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the main city, bombardments were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, sector and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well the camp to the northwest.

"As the evening arrives, the dread comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was died by an Israeli air strike last year, shared.

"My family are fearful of the attacks. During nighttime we are sleeping together, clinging, notably my youngest child who places his face on me all night."

"Every second we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be finalized and that the conflict will come back to us."

Health Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area said it had received the remains of six people by the midday, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern area.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of that area reported additional fatalities had been delivered. An individual was killed by Israeli soldiers while looking for help to the south, health workers reported.
