A number of individuals were hurt when a Delta Airlines aircraft traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia experienced significant turbulence on Friday morning.

The flight, numbered 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it made its approach and landed at Sydney Airport, a company official informed. Four flight attendants were injured.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service reported they assessed five patients, and transported three to a medical facility with relatively minor issues that such as back pain and head pain. The injured ranged from their 30s up to the 70s.

It is the newest example of aircraft encountering atmospheric disturbance, with aviation specialists pointing out that shifting climate patterns is a significant contributor.

The aircraft was carrying 245 passengers and fifteen staff members on the Airbus A350, the representative noted, clarifying that the plane landed "safely and normally" at Sydney Airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.

The NSW Ambulance Service indicated they were alerted just a mere three minutes prior to the plane touched down, and ambulances were standing by on the runway.

Why plane turbulence is getting more frequent - and potentially more dangerous.

Last year, twenty-five passengers and crew were hurt when another Delta jet, flying from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, hit "significant" atmospheric disturbance just 120 minutes into the lengthy trip, and had to make an emergency landing.
